Let the expensive batteries handle complex ballistic and hypersonic threats where their kinematics are genuinely irreplaceable. Leave the bulk of the drone and cruise missile mitigation to gun systems, directed energy prototypes, and mobile short-range air defense platforms.

The next time you read a breathless report about depleted missile stocks in Europe, remember what is actually happening. It is not an existential collapse of deterrence. It is a loud, manufactured lobbying campaign designed to force procurement officers to open the checkbooks for more of the same expensive hardware, while ignoring the structural changes required to fight the next war instead of the last one.

The stockpile is fine if you stop wasting it on targets that cost less than the fuel in the truck carrying the launcher.
